Blast Pit Prorgess ... seriously

It's been several days since I actually sat down and played. Part of that has to do with other things going on in my life and part of that has to do with sheer frustration at how difficult Blast Pit has been for me. But actually thinking about what I'm doing has given me a plan on how I'm going to complete this level.

After turning on the electricity I began to back track with a big problem of health. For some reason I decided to walk through some electrified water and lost a lot of health. But I got back across this collapsible platform:

This put me right back near the room with the Green Monster. I went back up a level, careful to crawl my way through and not die. Back on the second level I found another door and fortunately was able to break it with the crowbar and get through it without dying. After killing an alien I found a couple of boxes that had some much needed health. After a couple of ladders I realized I was down near the fuel room. I got down a long ladder resembling a manhole in a NYC street. I found my way down to some long pipes surrounded by water. There were some bullsquids and several blocked passages.

Yes, I know I'm still in Blast Pit, but I feel like I finally have a sense of direction. I'm going to find my way to turn on the fuel and then make my way back to the original control room, and send that Green Monster into orbit.

The one picture was the only screenshot I was able to get. I thought I had some other good shots but apparently I didn't. More to come very soon.

Cool, glad to see you're still at. It

Blast Pit is a long-ass level...you aren't finished yet, but I'm confident now you'll get there.

Once you're done with blast pit, you'll have a good lesson under your belt as to how most of the Half Life tasks go.

You need fuel, power, and ONE more thing, then you're good to go.

Yaay, you're back! :) As others have said, Blast Pit is a major level in the game (think boss battle) - and once you're through with it you'll have learned a lot about Valve's 'puzzle-style' challenges and how to approach them.

H-L 1 is all about interacting with the game environment (which was a 'new' thing at the time it came out); Valve's idea was to get beyond the whole 'find the blue key' FPS design, or at least camoflage it as something you might actually do in the game world.

From here on out, you'll have a much better idea of what to do next time you reach one of these sections - and you'll be having more fun because of it!

(edit, 'cause I can't spell!)

I'm also going through HL for the first time and was stuck at Blast Pit for a while. Just finally got through it after realizing my mistake (looks like yours too). KEEP AT IT MAN!
