and I ran ... I ran so far away

First off, I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, but a lot of the screen caps I'm trying to take turn out all black when I go to retrieve them from the file. I was able to get one screen capture, which is where I started off play tonight.

As I noted with my last post, I haven't really been using the correct keys for my movements + weapon usage. My first encounter with the soldiers saw me quickly die a few times at the hands of their guns and grenades.

So I ran ... yeah I know that's not going to get me out of every situation in this game, but with this particular obstacle it helped. I was able to shoot and run, but I'm just not good at aiming and shooting, and figuring out which weapon is best for which enemy.

After passing the first block of soldiers, I did kill some with the rifle. (and if I mis-name some of the weapons, please ignore) I recognize the pistol of course and the shot gun. So I assume the other weapon is the rifle.

After moving up some stairs I navigated two moving tracks. I thought they would be harder to move on, but the were easier than I thought. I passed some scientists running around, and along the way I picked up some much needed health and ammo.

I left off in another section with more soldiers and platforms.

I know I have to get better with movement, aim, weapons selection, and shooting, if I'm ever going to get through this. But I'm confident as I get further along that it will begin to come more naturally.

rifle = sub machine gun

but same difference really, its a gun, and it shoots people

keep at it, you will get the hand of wsad + mouse sooner or later, and after a while it will be like second nature

"We've got hostiles"

You're really getting into it now. Keep practicing with the moving and aiming business. You *must* be able to move and shoot accurately at the same time.

As for weaponry tips, remember that the shotgun is good for up close encounters. I don't remember how the weapon recoil is, but try and use the rifle/smg in short bursts. It saves on ammo, improves accuracy and generally lets you aim better. IIRC, the pistol is the only firearm you can use under water.

Also, you should be looking at your environment in terms of what is good cover/concealment and will help in a firefight.

Keep going goober. Enjoy the game

I assume that's a Doctor Who reference? If so, nice one. (And if not, well, never mind :-)
Don't worry about your playing skill, the wsad/mouse gets really intuitive after enough practice. But it is true that some people take more time than others, so I hope you don't get too frustrated with the game before then. Also, once you reach a certain level of skill, using cover against the soldiers is highly recommended. Duck, pop out for a shot or two, rinse, repeat. They're pretty smart and will try to flush you out, but you get the hang of it.

Remember to double back every so often and look for doors and vents you haven't used, you'll usually find some health and/or ammo inside.

Learn to use the mouse as soon as possible, whether through playing around in a multiplayer map by yourself, or through replaying the tutorial until you have it mastered because within a few hours you'll encounter enemies that test even longtime players such as myself. And running away only works if you have a clear escape, soon there'll be less obvious means of transport and paths will be somewhat obscured. Hard to escape when there's 2 dozen enemies onscreen.
